Women’s Health

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has a long history of success addressing a variety of women’s health concerns throughout the life cycle. At The Art of Acupuncture Wellness Center, we take a holistic approach in treating conditions such as PMS, menstrual irregularity, acne, menopause, infertility, pregnancy related symptoms, and anxiety/depression.

PMS and Menstrual Irregularity/Pain

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help regulate menstruation, balance emotions, and assist with pain-free periods. Heavy bleeding associated with fibroids and endometriosis can be restrained with the combination of these treatment modalities.

Family Planning

Acupuncture is a relatively safe treatment option to help couples with infertility to conceive naturally.   In addition, acupuncture may also be used to help increase the success rate of ART (assisted reproductive therapy) such as IUI or IVF. Couples are treated with appropriate protocols to fit the constitution of each person. Regulating the woman’s menstrual cycle, reducing stress, incorporating exercises and a healthy dietary practice can support a balanced body, mind, and spirit and create an optimal environment for conception.

Nearly 25% of infertile couples use acupuncture to address infertility.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

NIH studies showed that acupuncture is beneficial to support a healthy pregnancy. Acupuncture can help reduce the symptoms of morning sickness, fatigue, constipation, heartburn, migraine headaches, high blood pressure, stress, anxiety, insomnia, edema, or back pain. In later stage of pregnancy, acupuncture and moxibustion treatments can also facilitate with turning a breech baby, or assist with labor induction.

After giving birth, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and dietary therapy can assist the woman’s body in restoring and replenishing it’s energy to prevent postpartum depression, support adequate breast milk production and let-down, and address other common problems such as constipation, back pain, fatigue or insomnia.

Pediatric Tui Na massage and Shonishin therapy can also help with common conditions seen in newborns.

Acupuncture and many Chinese herbal formulas are effective natural options in reducing common symptoms of menopause, including hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, headaches, depression, and vaginal dryness.
